Sandown Park hosts some of the racing calendar’s finest events, at all times of year. Summertime’s “Sundown at Sandown” concerts provide the ultimate evening getaway and perfect antidote from the heat of nearby London, whilst the thrilling William Hill Tingle Creek Trophy in early December is one of jump racing’s winter highlights.
Facilities
Sandown’s Premier enclosure is one of the country’s finest, thanks, in part, to excellent views of the countryside, not to mention the action on the course. Its covered seating gives a view directly opposite the winning post. Racegoers can choose from a number of high-quality restaurants or bars. The Tingle Creek restaurant offers a full a la carte menu, while The Loch Fyne fish restaurant in the Grandstand serves fresh fish and shellfish direct from the Scottish coast.
There are food and drink outlets throughout the course and a picnic area in front of the Grandstand apron is the perfect place to catch the action on a warm summer’s day.
Locality
In addition to racing, Sandown Park, in Esher, is an ideal golfing destination. The racecourse even has its own 9-hole course. This sleepy Surrey town has its fair share of pretty English pubs and fine houses. It’s also just 30 minutes’ from London by train. The station is a short walk from the course.
