Simon Bazalgette 

Chief Executive of the Jockey Club

This new position is part of a new era for the Jockey Club to enable it to adopt a more proactive and coordinated approach to the management of its commercial assets.  The groups interests include Jockey Club Racecourses, Jockey Club Estates, The National Stud and Racing Welfare.

Previously a Founder Director and Chief Executive of Music Choice Europe plc, Simon then joined Racing UK at its inception in May 2004.  In addition to the success of Racing UK, Simon oversaw the successful launch of TurfTV, the sister channel providing coverage from 31 British racecourses to over 8,500 betting shops.

Andrew Gould

Finance & Commercial Director of the Jockey Club
A qualified chartered accountant, Andrew joined Jockey Club Racecourses in 1987 as the Group Accountant.  In 2004 he took the role of Finance and Commercial Director, with particular involvement in media rights and IT management. 

As part of the restructuring Andrew was appointed to the new position of Finance & Commercial Director of the Jockey Club, effective from 1st September 2008.

Paul Fisher

Chief Operating Officer

Paul joined Jockey Club Racecourses in 2000 as Finance Director for the 3 London Racecourses; Epsom Downs, Kempton Park and Sandown Park.

In Sept 2006, Paul was appointed Managing Director of Kempton Park Racecourse where he successfully re-established the venue as not only a top racecourse, but developed the evening racing plus entertainment concept.
 
Paul was seconded from his Managing Director role in October 2007 to lead the review of the business and has since been appointed Chief Operating Officer where he has primary responsibility for the performance and operation of the Jockey Club's 14 Racecourses.
 
Prior to joining Jockey Club Racecourses, Paul started his career in the public sector before moving into professional football.  He is a qualified accountant and has a degree in Business and Finance.

John Smee

Group Racing Director

John has an unprecedented knowledge of fixtures and race planning gained from 25 years working for the Jockey Club and then managing the British Horseracing Board’s Race Planning department from 1994. He was appointed as Jockey Club Racecourse’s first Group Racing Manager in April 2001, and promoted to Racing Director in June 2005. He is responsible for the definition and content of all fixtures across the 14 Jockey Club Racecourses courses, and for ensuring their quality and competitiveness.

Colin Fellows

Group Property Director

Colin joins Jockey Club Racecourses from Safeway where he was Director of Building Projects having previously filled the roles of Director of Planning and Co-ordination and Director of New Store Contracts during a 10-year stay. His extensive experience of property management includes periods at John Laing, Arlington Securities and Trafalgar House.

John Maxse

Director of Communications and Special Projects

John Maxse, aged 40 (as of 01/01/08), joined the Jockey Club's Public Relations Department in 1993, since then he has developed a close and effective working relationship with the racing press and media. In 1997 he became the Club's primary spokesman on all regulatory matters and in

2001 was appointed Public Relations Director. In 2005 he moved away from regulation and became the Club's Director of Communications and Special Projects, operating on behalf of the Jockey Club's commercial activities, including Jockey Club Racecourses and Jockey Club Estates.

Prior to joining the Jockey Club he had experience of working in the media and in a racing yard.

John is also an amateur rider and has ridden in Point to Points and Under Rules since 1985.
